Online Integrates New EQECAT Earthquake Offerings into its Web-based Solution
Boston, MA, October 2009 – RiskMeter Online, a Web-based
service which provides real-time, natural hazard risk reports to underwriters
and agents, announced today that it has expanded its agreement with catastrophe
risk modeling firm EQECAT.
This expanded agreement will add two new earthquake features to the RiskMeter
Online. The first one involves the integration of EQECAT’s main software
platform, WORLDCATenterprise™(WCe), which includes information based
on the latest science and analytics, into RiskMeter. As this model is updated,
RiskMeter will automatically reflect those changes by incorporating the latest
earthquake research into its reports, enabling underwriters and agents to
have the most up-to-date earthquake information at their fingertips.
The second earthquake feature added to RiskMeter allows underwriters and agents
to obtain single site Average Annual Loss (AAL) and Probable Maximum Loss
(PML) calculations for earthquake ground shaking. These reports can be retrieved
in real-time by simply entering an address and building characteristics.
The addition of AAL and PML loss calculations for earthquake ground shaking
will pay immediate dividends by enabling insurers to accurately price their
coverage, as well as allow insurers to dig deeper so that their customers
are adequately protected in case they are involved in a serious earthquake
event.
“Adding these capabilities to our web-based platform brings catastrophe
modeling to underwriters’ desktops in a simple, easy to use application,”
says Dan Munson, Founder RiskMeter Online. “Furthermore, since RiskMeter
is web-based, we can provide this functionality to virtually any user without
the need to build applications or involve IT departments, so it can be rolled
out and used immediately.”
“RiskMeter’s goal is to provide its customers with the latest
tools and data so they can accurately assess and price risk. By expanding
our earthquake licensing agreement with EQECAT, a leader in catastrophe risk
modeling, we are now providing our users with the most up-to-date features
and data that will help them to make better underwriting decisions,”
explains Munson.
“The combination of RiskMeter’s easy-to-use web-based service,
and EQECAT’s catastrophe loss information, will be of great interest
to the property marketplace,” says Bill Keogh, Senior Vice President
of EQECAT. “Our agreement with RiskMeter demonstrates EQECAT’s
position as a trusted and insightful advisor to clients.”
EQECAT's U.S. earthquake model which has undergone independent review by the
U.S. Geological Survey, the California Geological Survey and the Pacific Earthquake
Engineering Research Center, has met the high standards of the California
Earthquake Authority and has been recognized as suitable for use by the CEA
for public rate filings.
