The 2011 tornado season has been extremely active and has already surpassed last year’s totals for number of tornadoes (1,282) and damage ($1.1 billion).  In the first six months of 2011 alone, there were approximately 1,600 tornadoes that caused an estimated $10 billion dollars worth of insured property damage, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

“Tornado events will always be a cause of concern for insurers,” explains Daniel Munson, Founder, RiskMeter Online.  “With RiskMeter’s Tornado report, users can enter an address and get frequency of tornado events, percentile score which compares the address entered to the rest of the US, average number of tornadoes for an area and a risk score.  This detailed information will provide a much clearer picture of tornado risk, enabling underwriters to assess and price tornado risk more accurately,” says Munson.
