On Tuesday, May 17th at 2pm (EDT) Daniel Munson, Founder, RiskMeter Online will demonstrate RiskMeter's Building Characteristic report via WebEx.  Whether you work for a Reinsurer, Carrier or Broker by attending this Webinar, you'll see for yourself how you can gain a competitive edge by:

  • Increasing New Business & Renewals
  • Improving Ease of Doing Business for Agents
  • Saving Money on Adjusted Premiums
  • Improving Catastrophe Modeling Results
  • Lowering Reinsurance Costs
  • Boosting Underwriting Results

This WebEx will be open to all prospects and customers. We have a limited number of seats for this event. To secure your spot, please go here or contact Ryan Turgeon at 617.737.4444 or Email

The Importance of Building Characteristics

The importance of building characteristics can be felt throughout the insurance industry from Reinsurers all the way down to Brokers.  When building characteristic information isn't provided, it's common for year built, number of stories, roof shape, etc., fields to be labeled as "unknown" during the modeling process.

RiskMeter Announces its Top Ten List of Sinkhole Prone Counties in Florida

CDS Business Mapping, LLC., a leader in online hazard mapping, today announced its list of the top ten sinkhole prone counties in Florida.  This list is based on information from RiskMeter's sinkhole database and it's Sinkhole Clearinghouse, which contains over 12,000 sinkholes not available from public sources.  Article

RiskMeter's Cat Modeling Products Offer 2nd Opinion

Many of our customers have commented that occasionally, the results from their cat models seem off on individual risks.  There may be some peculiarity about the risk the model has a problem with.  Since many companies only use one model, they really have no way to verify results to make sure they seem reasonable.  The RiskMeter Online now makes this possible!

The RiskMeter now offers Average Annual Loss (AAL) and Probable Maximum Loss (PML) on a per click basis.  We offer them from two of the leading cat modeling firms - RMS and EQECAT.  So if you want to use one of these models to compare the results of your in-house model(s), now you can!   We make this affordable, because there is no upfront license fee!  To learn more, or to try it free, contact us an account executive at 617.737.4444

Tsunami Exposure Reports

After the recent events in Japan some insurers suffered losses along the coasts in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.  This event made insurers wonder what would happen if a closer or larger tsunami struck Hawaii or the West Coast.  In order to gain more insight into their Tsunami Exposure, some of our customers who write business in these states, have been leveraging our Tsunami, Distance to Coast and Elevation reports.  By running all three reports at once, underwriters and agents are now able to gain more insight into their Tsunami exposure, uncover niche markets and accurately price risk.  For more information about pricing or running your book of business, please speak to Amanda Brax at 617.737.4444 or Email

CDS Wildfire Model Update

RiskMeter is currently updating the CDS Wildfire model in all of the western states it covers.  These updates should be live starting in about a month.  The main difference is we'll be using consistent, newer higher resolution data for all states.  This will lead to more accurate and timely decisions.  If there are states that are a particular concern to you, let us know, and we'll work on these first.  In addition, look for other exciting announcements on wildfire modeling from CDS soon!

Featured WebEx Recordings

Over the last few months we've recorded Webinars on various subjects.  If you were too busy to attend any of these information packed sessions you're in luck!

Last week RiskMeter broadcasted two featured WebEx events, which we recorded.  The first was on our Sinkhole Report, which covered risk mitigation strategies, top sinkhole prone areas, sinkhole statistics and our clearinghouse database.  The second featured WebEx event was on Catastrophe Modeling for Brokers.  This Webinar covered using EQECAT Modeling to provide more compelling content for client proposals, negotiating better prices from carriers and advising how much insurance to purchase.

We have also recorded some other notable events, including: Parcel Level Geocoding, RMS Data & Analytics, Advanced Flood, Flood Elevation & Storm Surge, EQECAT US Wind AAL & PML and Virtual MGA Integration of RiskMeter Online.

To request a recording link or PowerPoint presentations, please contact Ryan Turgeon at 617.737.4444 or Email

EQECAT US Earthquake Fact Sheet

We've just added a fact sheet for EQECAT's US Earthquake Model into our resources section.  This fact sheet contains information on the sources and methodology behind the model.  Within the next few weeks we will be adding one on EQECAT's US Wind Model as well.

To view this fact sheet you will need to log into your account. Once you've logged in, you'll notice several hyperlinks (view address, new account, etc) on the bottom of the page.  All you need to do is click on the glossary/resources link, and you'll be taken to a landing page, which contains the resources link.

 Tech Tip: One Click Ruler

Are there times when you need an exact distance for a brush, FEMA flood zone or distance to shore determination? You can get an exact distance by utilizing our One Click Ruler. You'll notice on your output page above the map there are buttons, which say: "Zoom in, Zoom Out, Manual Placement and Distance." Here's what you have to do to get the exact distance: Click on the distance button above your map on the output page. Once you've done this, your subject will act as an anchor! Next, pick the spot on the map that you need to check the distance to. After you've clicked on that spot, your output page will refresh, and you'll notice a line (with distance) going from the subject house to the spot you clicked on the map!  If you have a question about this tip, please contact Ryan Turgeon, Customer Support & Training at 617.737.4444 or Email
