Florida
Windspeed Mitigation Update |
|
The RiskMeter Online has updated its Florida Windspeed
Mitigation report to meet the requirements of a new Florida
state law, which requires property and casualty insurers to
provide windspeed mitigation zones when writing new business
or renewing old policies.
This new law was enacted to
stabilize premiums in Florida, but insurers are now faced with
the daunting task of quickly and accurately adding windspeed
mitigation zones to hundreds and even thousands of policies.
Fortunately, with RiskMeter's Windspeed Mitigation report,
users will be able to get the required windspeed mitigation
zones (Windborne Debris Regions, Windspeed
Region and High Velocity Hurricane Zones) by simply
typing in an address!
CDS recommends running renewals
in batch so underwriters won't have to manually type in each
address. For more information about this report, please
contact Daniel Munson at 617.737.4444 or dmunson@cdsys.com

New
Connecticut Coastline |
|
The Connecticut Legislature has implemented a new coastline
which must be used by ALL insurers who write business in
Connecticut. This new coastline is based upon "angle of impact
measurement" and it takes into account where the highest winds
will occur along rivers, bays and inlets.
Insurers who
use their own shorelines or the standard RiskMeter shoreline
now must write new business or renew old policies based on
these new definitions. We are actively working with the CT DOI
and are waiting for final approval of the proposed changes.
Within the next week or two we should be able to accommodate
all customer requests for this newly defined
coastline.
This will inevitably impact your Probable
Maximum Loss and ultimately your reinsurance costs. CDS is
recommending running renewal business in batch to determine
the revised distance to coast. For questions on the new
coastline requirements, or information on running your new and
existing policies through our software in batch, please
contact Jamie Munson at 860.854.6125 or jmunson@cdsys.com

Storm
Surge Data Coming Soon to the RiskMeter |
|
CDS is working to add storm surge data to the RiskMeter
Online. This report will identify areas likely to be flooded
during hurricanes. Our storm surge maps are based upon the
well known and respected SLOSH (Sea,
Lake, and Overland
Surges from Hurricanes) storm
surge model. This report will let you know if a property falls
within an area likely to flood from a hurricane of a specific
strength (category 1-5), as well as the estimated maximum
storm surge height for each category of storm.
How will this help users? RiskMeter's storm
surge report is the perfect tool for insurers who are looking
to gain a better understanding of their coastal flood
exposure. Although flood maps approximate storm surge levels,
these storm surge maps are more detailed, and provide a more
realistic assessment of coastal flooding. Post Katrina
insurers have a heightened sense of concern with respect to
coastal flooding. Although technically storm surge is not
covered under many homeowners' policies, this assumption is
currently being challenged in court. Insurers would like to
know if a policy might be subject to flood claims, even if
they aren't covered. Carriers writing excess flood, business
interruption, BOP's, commercial property and coastal
homeowners can all benefit from this report.

Manual
Flood Determination Added to Report Selection Screen |
|
The manual flood determination option has been added to the
report selection screen. This was done so users wouldn't have
to run a flood report, then ask for a manual flood
determination on the address in question. Please contact your
account executive at 617.737.4444 if there are any
other features you would like the RiskMeter Online to add.

AZ
and SC Added to Responding Fire District Report |
|
CDS has just added Arizona and South Carolina to its
Responding Fire District Report. This report now provides
coverage for ten states, including: AZ, CA, FL, HI, IL, KS,
MS, ND, SC and VA.
How will this report benefit users? In order to
accurately price a policy for fire, underwriters must refer to
their ppo manual to get a rating. Unfortunately, a community
name is needed to assign a rating. If underwriters don't have
this information, they are forced to flip through paper based
maps in order to find the community name. This can be a very
time consuming and error prone process. That's why the
RiskMeter Online developed its Responding Fire District
Report. By simply typing in an address, users can get the
community name in a matter of minutes. For more information,
please contact Daniel Munson at 617.737.4444 or dmunson@cdsys.com
