MMI
Enhancement |
|
Currently, when a user runs a QuickQuake-Assess report,
they may not get back a full report. This is because in areas
of low seismicity, there may not be enough information
available to accurately predict ruptures along faults. The
QuickQuake Assess is built upon "scenario modeling" where it
is looking at individual faults and the expected events along
those faults. In low seismic areas, there haven't been enough
events to accurately predict future events. Think of these
areas as having "background seismicity." There aren't any
known faults that are expected to rupture on a regular basis.
In these cases, one of the fields that is not returned in low
seismicity areas is the Modified Mercalli Index (MMI). These
are generally areas of low seismicity, so it didn't seem to be
a big deal.
This has caused problems for some of our customers. Some
carriers have MMI guidelines for writing policies. This means
that they always want to check the Mercalli Score, even if
it's low. We're pleased to announce that we have augmented the
QuickQuake data with data from the USGS to fill in the areas
that weren't showing MMI scores. Users can now get scores
anywhere in the US (Alaska is is pending). We can also
identify whether the source is the USGS or EQE.
There is no additional charge for this enhancement.
However, you must specifically ask for this. Contact Wendy
Corr at 617.737.4444 or wcorr@cdsys.com if you would
like this change made to your account, or have further
questions. This is only available with the 500 year return
period, as this is the only return period available through
the USGS. We can also return the Peak Ground Acceleration
(PGA) in these areas. |

Parcel Level
Geocoding for Florida is Now Available |
|
CDS is proud to announce it has added a Florida parcel
level geocoding database to the RiskMeter Online. This
database contains over of over 7 million parcels with
addresses in 65 out of 67 counties, and partial
coverage in the remaining two.
One of the main
benefits of this database is its increased accuracy when it
comes to geocoding addresses. Although standard geocoding is
accurate, parcel level geocoding takes it one step further.
When an address is run through this database, it will place
the address entered into the center of the parcel. This type
of accuracy will be especially helpful when checking for
distance to coast, flood, rating territories and windpool
eligibility. To discuss adding this to your account, please
contact your account executive.
Why is this
Important for Reinsurers? In reinsurance pricing is
built upon an understanding of the risks in a portfolio.
Missing building details on risks can be a cause for concern,
which in turn makes reinsurers increase their prices due to
uncertainty of risk. By having a more complete picture of each
policy, reinsurers can provide better pricing, because they
have better information. Win more business without adding
risk!
Why is this Important for Carriers &
Reinsurance Brokers? Carriers & Reinsurance Brokers
who can provide better information for their reinsurance
modelers can benefit by reducing their uncertainty of risk. By
providing a more complete picture to reinsurers, it's possible
for carriers and reinsurers to negotiate better rates on
behalf of their clients. Win more business by providing better
alternatives to prospects and
customers!

New Elevation Label Feature Added to
Slope/Aspect/Elevation Report |
|
We've taken your feedback and have added elevation labels
to RiskMeter's Slope/Aspect/Elevation report. This new feature
will assist you in gaining a better understanding of the
topography around the policy in question.
Currently,
when someone runs a Slope/Aspect/Elevation report, one of the
items returned is a map with a colored grid that shows various
slope ranges.
- 0-6 degrees
- 6-20 degrees
- 20-40 degrees
- Greater than 40 degrees
With this new elevation label feature, the RiskMeter will
provide you with the elevation of the different slope ranges
that surround a policy. This additional information will be
extremely helpful when it comes to writing brush or when
trying to understand flooding potential. For more information
about this feature, please contact your account executive at

Gen Re
Intermediaries Integrates RiskMeter Online into its MapPML
Application |
|
Gen Re Intermediaries (GRI) has integrated the RiskMeter
Online into its MapPML tool, which is a proprietary
web-enabled catastrophe management tool used to evaluate and
map risks, as well as assess catastrophe risk premium
adequacy.
"One of Gen Re Intermediaries' top priorities for 2008 is
to continue to expand the functionality of our MapPML product
to further assist our clients with their efforts to improve
their portfolio of property risks," says Berto Sciolla,
President of Gen Re Intermediaries. "With the integration of
the RiskMeter Online into GRI's MapPML, our clients have the
ability to run over 30 real-time, natural hazard risk reports
on a single U.S. location, enabling GRI's clients'
underwriters to make more informed decisions in assessing and
pricing risks."
