| FirstBest Systems,
Inc. Partners with RiskMeter |
|
|
FirstBest® Systems, Inc., has partnered
with the RiskMeter Online and has integrated
RiskMeter's natural hazard risk reports into
its Underwriting Management Systems™ (UMS™)
platform.
FirstBest Systems delivers advanced
Underwriting Management Systems that enable
Insurance companies to write more business and
write better business. The UMS combines a
next-generation underwriting workstation with a
point-of-sale agency portal for commercial lines
carriers.
Many insurers find their underwriters and
agents having to spend a majority of time
gathering information from different systems,
maintaining files and answering questions from
various parties. FirstBest's UMS Version
2.0, released in November 2008, offers
underwriters full, rules-driven straight-through
processing (STP), including flexible online quotes
for agents. The system provides unprecedented
online functionality to agents, including online
quotes and binders, to make it as easy as possible
for them to do business with carriers.
As part of its commitment to ease of use,
FirstBest's UMS 2.0 integration with the RiskMeter
Online and its popular reports will help speed the
underwriting process with automated property
reports.

| New Panning Feature on
Aerial Overlay Maps |
|
In order to make our aerial
overlay maps even more user friendly, we've made
it possible to scroll around diagonally on our
maps. All users need to do is click on the
arrow in the corner of the hazard map/aerial
photo.
For users who aren't familiar with our aerial
overlay maps, a couple of months ago the RiskMeter
Online made two significant improvements to its
service.
First, we overlaid our risk maps directly
onto aerial images. This revolutionary
feature was added to help users in analyzing risk,
by enabling them to see where natural hazards
(flood zones, brush, storm surge, etc) fall in
relation to a building. Users will no longer need
to compare a natural hazard map to an aerial
image, as these two maps have been merged.
To see sample screen shots, view here.
Second, RiskMeter has improved the look of
its street maps by adding street names and
landmarks to them. This enhancement will make it
easier for users to run reports on new
developments, properties located in rural areas,
as well as verify addresses that have poor
geocoding results.

Special Feature: Batch
Processing
|
|
Since the introduction
of RiskMeter's Batch Processing Web site, CDS
has made many enhancements to this service over
the last few months. In this month's
newsletter, we choose to cover the following batch
related topics:
- Overview and Recent Updates
- Running Batches with
Latitude/Longitude
- Using Batch Processing for Agent Book
Roll/Book of Business Transfers
We will continue to update users of recent
batch developments and applications in upcoming
newsletters. If you have any questions,
please speak with an account executive at
617.737.4444 |
Part 1: About
Batch Processing & Recent
Updates
|
|
For those of you who aren't
familiar with the RiskMeter Online batch service
(www.batch.riskmeter.com),
it allows users to run multiple
addresses, book of business
transfers or schedules without
the need to type in each address
individually. The batch feature enables
users to upload a file and get the results Emailed
back in spreadsheet format anytime, anywhere.
CDS has taken your feedback and we've made
some updates to the RiskMeter Online Batch Web
site, including:
- Option to use Latitude/Longitude coordinates
- New
- Ability to Geocode policies - New
- Option to save results as an Excel
spreadsheet
- Deleted Internal RiskMeter columns from
results
- Option to add Geocoding
Accuracy & Latitude/Longitude
columns
- Option to click a link in the output table
to open an individual record in
RiskMeter
Out of all of the enhancements we have made,
providing our users with the ability to pull up
individual records in RiskMeter is a huge
development. This feature will allow users
to dig deeper and pull up aerial photos to see if
a building is in a flood zone or to see how dense
brush is in a particular area.
To add the batch feature to your account or
for more information about our enhancements,
please contact your account executive at
617.737.4444 |
| Part 2: Running Batches
with Latitude/Longitude |
|
RiskMeter is proud to
announce that it has added another enhancement to
its Online Batch Processing Web site (www.batch.riskmeter.com).
It's now possible to run batches using
Latitude/Longitude coordinates provided by the
user.
Using different geocoders may put
locations in slightly different places. If
you have already geocoded your locations, we can
ensure that we are using the same coordinates
using this service. Coordinates must
be provided in decimal degrees using either NAD 83
or WGS84 coordinates. For more information
about this feature, please speak with an account
executive at 617.737.4444 |
Part 3: Using Batch
Processing for Agent Book Roll / Book of Business
Transfers
|
|
| It's common for agents to
shop their book of business to various
carriers. Carriers, in turn, must evaluate
if moving an agent's book to their company makes
sense. Quite often, some of the policies
don't meet the carriers underwriting
guidelines. Unfortunately, assessing natural
hazard risk for thousands of policies can be a
very error prone and time consuming task.
That's why RiskMeter offers book roll or
book of business
transfer processing, so carriers can
quickly and accurately assess risk. Using
the RiskMeter's new online batch
tool, it's possible to easily assess risk based on
your underwriting
guidelines, (ex. more than 10 miles from
coast, ½ mile from medium brush, etc) just like
when addresses are manually entered into the
standard RiskMeter site to process new
business. To learn more about this service,
please speak with an account executive at 617.737.4444 |
| What Reports Does
RiskMeter Online Offer? |
|
| As you may know, the
RiskMeter Online continues to add additional
reports as we see a need. We have recently
added reports like storm surge, wind speed maps
for additional states, online batch tool and new
background images. We also know that your
needs change over time, as you add lines, enter
new states or refine your underwriting guidelines.
To see a complete list of
reports, please view here.
