Featured WebEx: Hurricane
Storm Surge
|
|
According to the Insurance
Information Institute (III), insurance losses from
2008's Hurricane Ike totaled over $10 billion in
losses and it was the 3rd most costly hurricane
(in original values) after Katrina (2005) and
Andrew (1992).
Coastal flooding as a result
of hurricane storm surge is a significant
catastrophe exposure for insurers. In 2008
alone, there were billions of dollars in storm
surge related losses. Recent studies have
indicated that millions of properties fall into
areas susceptible to storm surge that are not in
FEMA flood areas! Checking a policy's
proximity to a flood zone is not an adequate
risk mitigation strategy.
With the start of
the 2009 hurricane season rapidly approaching, now
is the time to start thinking about your storm
surge exposure. On Thursday, April 23,
2009 (2pm EDT) Dan Munson, Founder, VP of
Sales & Marketing will lead a live, online
demonstration of our storm surge
report.
RiskMeter's storm surge report is
based on the well known and respected SLOSH (Sea,
Lake
and Overland
Surges
from Hurricanes)
storm surge model. By simply typing in an
address, you will be able to get storm surge
results for
every category of hurricane, as well as
identify locations susceptible to storm
surge.
Event
Information This WebEx Online seminar
will cover in great detail the methodology behind
our storm surge report and risk mitigation
strategies. Since we have a limited number
of seats for this WebEx event, it will only be
open to current RiskMeter Online customers.
To secure your spot for Thursday, April 23,
2009 (2pm EDT), please register here. |
AgencyPort Insurance
Services, Inc. Partners with RiskMeter
Online
|
|
AgencyPort Insurance
Services, Inc., a leading provider of web-based
solutions and services designed specifically for
property & casualty insurers, has formed a
partnership with the RiskMeter Online. This
partnership will enable insurers to streamline
the underwriting process by eliminating duplicate
data entry, as well as reduce the communication
needed between an underwriter or agent to quote
and bind new and existing business.
"In
order to provide straight-thru-processing and make
it very easy for agents to do business, it's
crucial for insurers to integrate with third
party data providers in an effort to automate the
underwriting process at the point of sale,"
explains Steven Hauck, Co-Founder &
President, AgencyPort. "Our partnership with
RiskMeter essentially lowers the cost and risk
associated with the combination of two software
providers within a total solution. For multiple
customers, AgencyPort has developed a
re-usable connector to over 30 of RiskMeter's
real-time, natural hazard risk reports," says
Hauck.
"Submitting new or existing
business to a carrier can be error prone and time
consuming," explains Daniel Munson, Founder,
RiskMeter Online. "In order to quote or bind
a piece of business, it requires underwriters and
agents to gather information from different
systems, maintain multiple files and answer
questions from various parties. AgencyPort's
partnership with RiskMeter lowers the cost
associated with bringing this information into one
application framework, providing insurers with a
quick return on investment (ROI), by allowing
their underwriters to focus on writing business
and their agents to concentrate on selling," says
Munson.

| Distance to Work Report
Announcement |
|
We've finally completed beta
testing our Distance to Work Report. Within
the next week or two this report will be available
on the RiskMeter Online. If you're not
familiar with this report, it enables users to
type in a home address and other additional
addresses to calculate the distance and drive time
from home to work. While we hoped everyone
would know the address of a spouse, child, etc.,
that may get dropped off during the course of a
commute, there are many instances where the
insured does not. Since this is often the
case, we have added an additional Google powered
search feature, which allows users to type in a
business name(s) or landmark(s) and get a
corresponding address to calculate the estimated
distance and drive time to work.
More and
more carriers are looking at a Pay As You Drive
system to determine pricing, coverage, etc.
There has been a great deal of resistance related
to installing a "black box" in customers' vehicles
with concerns to privacies and freedoms looming
overhead. This alleviates this
entirely. While it may not be a substitute
for an odometer reading, this will bring great
strides in determining a realistic estimate of
mileage driven annually.

| New Panning Feature on
Aerial Overlay Maps |
|
In order to make our aerial
overlay maps even more user friendly, we've made
it possible to scroll around diagonally on our
maps. All users need to do is click on the
arrow in the corner of the hazard map/aerial
photo.
For users who aren't familiar with our aerial
overlay maps, a couple of months ago the RiskMeter
Online made two significant improvements to its
service.
First, we overlaid our risk maps directly
onto aerial images. This revolutionary
feature was added to help users in analyzing risk,
by enabling them to see where natural hazards
(flood zones, brush, storm surge, etc) fall in
relation to a building. Users will no longer need
to compare a natural hazard map to an aerial
image, as these two maps have been merged.
To see sample screen shots, view here.
Second, RiskMeter has improved the look of
its street maps by adding street names and
landmarks to them. This enhancement will make it
easier for users to run reports on new
developments, properties located in rural areas,
as well as verify addresses that have poor
geocoding results.
