| New Louisiana Fire
District Report |
|
CDS has just added Louisiana to the RiskMeter
Online's Fire District Report. This report
can assist property & casualty insurers in
determining the correct protection class for a
piece of business. What once used to be an
error prone and time consuming process can now be
performed much quicker and more accurately.
Currently, this report is available in the
following states: AZ, CA, FL, IL, HI, KS,
LA, MS, ND, NY,SC and
VA, but we are in the process of adding
more states. If there is a state you would
like to see us add, please contact Jamie Munson at
860.854.6125 or jmunson@cdsys.com |
| RiskMeter Online Partners
with MSO, Inc. |
|
|
The RiskMeter Online has partnered with MSO®,
Inc. (The Mutual Service Office, Inc.), a licensed
rating organization, which provides customized
rating solutions for insurers in 9 states and the
District of Columbia, with plans to expand into 8
additional states. This alliance will enable
MSO users to run RiskMeter's real-time, property
risk reports on new business and renewals.
"In order for small and mid-sized regional
companies to survive and thrive in today's
competitive property & casualty insurance
industry, it's crucial for them to streamline
their underwriting operations," explains Joy
Casapullo, VP of Operations, MSO, Inc. "MSO has
always worked with clients to provide them with
customized rating solutions for their
organizations, but we wanted to help our users to
eliminate any unnecessary and repetitive
underwriting tasks. A logical step was for
MSO to partner with the RiskMeter Online, so users
could assess property risk in the early stages of
the underwriting process and determine whether a
particular piece of business was worth writing,"
says Casapullo.
For more information on this partnership,
please contact Jamie Munson at
860.854.6125 or jmunson@cdsys.com |
| Distance to Work
Report |
|
| The RiskMeter is looking for
feedback on adding a new report to its suite
of offerings. The Distance to Work Report
will enable a user to type in a home address and
other addresses to calculate the distance from
home to a work address. While we hoped
everyone would know the address of a spouse,
child, etc., many times they do not. Since
this is often the case, there will be an
additional lookup feature, which will allow the
user to get some help. While people may not
know the street address, they do know the company
name, city, and state of the employer. This
feature will enable a user to fill in an entire
address or just the parts he/she knows.
More and more carriers are looking at a Pay
As You Drive system to determine pricing,
coverage, etc. There has been a great deal
of resistance related to installing a "black box"
in customers' vehicles with concerns of privacies
and freedoms looming overhead. This
alleviates this entirely. While it may not
be a substitute for an odometer reading, this will
bring great strides in determining a realistic
estimate of mileage driven annually.

Munson at 860.854.6125 or jmunson@cdsys.com |
| 2008 Tornado Season
Update |
|
According to a recent
article in USA Today, it's possible the 2008
tornado season could be a record setting
year. As of July 1, 2008 there were
1,390 officially recorded
tornadoes in the first seven months of
the year - the most ever. The annual record for
tornadoes in the USA is 1,817, set in
2004.
With the start of the second
tornado season (October & November) already
here, it's imperative for insurers to know their
tornado and hail exposure when pricing renewals
and new business. RiskMeter's tornado and
hail reports can help by quickly telling users if
a policy falls into a low, medium or high risk
area. For more information on RiskMeter's
Tornado and Hail reports, batch/schedule
processing or test drive these reports for free,

| RiskMeter Online's
Glossary/Resources Section |
|
|
Over the years CDS has compiled many
different maps, presentations and
statistics. We're now trying to make more of
this information available to our users through
our glossary/resources section on the
RiskMeter Online.
To view this material you will need to log
into your account. Once you've logged in, you'll
notice several hyperlinks (view address, new
account, etc) on the bottom of the page. All
you need to do is click on the second to last link
(glossary/resources) and you'll be taken to a
landing page, which contains the new resources
link.

| New Louisiana Wind
Speed Report |
|
| CDS has added a new Louisiana
Wind Speed report to the RiskMeter Online.
This report will alert users which wind speed
region (there are 7 total) a policy falls into
and provide users with a way
to accurately apply credits. These maps
compliment the wind speed maps we currently offer
in FL, RI, and SC. Other maps can be made
available upon request. To add this report
to your account, please contact your account
executive at

| Crime Report Updated
|
|
| CDS has just updated
RiskMeter's Crime Report. This report is updated
yearly, and it's based on FBI Uniform Crime
Reporting Statistics (UCR) and demographic
clustering, to estimate crime rates for very small
areas (census block groups). The latest
update includes new data from 2007. For
users who aren't familiar with this report, all
you need to do is enter an address and it will
return 10 crime scores for a given location.
Many of our customers have found this report
to be extremely helpful when writing commercial
and residential property, by identifying high risk
areas prior to instituting coverage. In
addition, carriers who write convenience stores
and fast food restaurants have also used them to
evaluate the risk of an area.
We have just added the latest crime
statistics to our resources section. You
may view them here or you can Email
Ryan Turgeon at rturegon@cdsys.com to
request a copy. For more information or
to test drive this report for two weeks, please
contact your account executive at

| Alabama Wind Pool Report
Updated |
|
| CDS has just added the
revised Alabama
rating zones to the RiskMeter Online wind pool
report. Now if a policy falls "In" a wind
pool zone, RiskMeter will tell users if the policy
in question falls into a Gulf Front, Coastal or
Beach territory. For more information,
please speak with your account executive at

| Test Drive the RiskMeter
2.0 for Free |
|
|
The RiskMeter Online has made two significant
improvements to its service and we'd love for our
users to test them out!
First, the RiskMeter Online 2.0 now has
the ability to overlay our risk maps
directly on aerial images. This
revolutionary feature will be extremely helpful in
analyzing risk, by enabling users to see where
natural hazards (flood zones, brush, storm surge,
etc) fall in relation to a building. Users
will no longer need to compare a flood map to an
aerial image, as these two maps have been
merged. To see sample screen shots, click here.
Second, RiskMeter has improved the look of
its street maps by adding street names and
landmarks to them. This enhancement will make it
easier for users to run reports on new
developments, properties located in rural areas,
as well as verify addresses that have poor
geocoding results. We are only allowing a
limited number of organizations to test drive the
RiskMeter Online 2.0 for free. To reserve
your spot, please contact Ryan Turgeon at
617.737.4444 or rturgeon@cdsys.com |
| Top Ten Hail Prone
Metro Areas |
|
|
CDS has just released its list of the top
ten hail prone metro areas. This list
is based on the RiskMeter Online's Hail
Model, which predicts the severity of hail
for any location in the Continental United
States. According to this report, the
following top ten hail prone metro areas (pop
50,000+) are as follows:
- Amarillo, TX
- Tulsa, OK
- Wichita, KS
- Dodge City, KS
- Oklahoma City, OK
- Wichita Falls, TX
- Fort Worth, TX
- Denver, CO
- Kansas City, MO
- Colorado Springs, CO
Hail events are a constant threat to property
and casualty insurers. In 2005 alone there
were over 13,000 hail storms in the United
States. In addition, according to Swiss RE,
4 out of the top 20 most costly insurance losses
were hail related.
