Torando Report Updated

CDS has just updated RiskMeter’s Tornado report by
adding data from 2005. This report is now based on
events from 1990 – 2005.
For people who aren’t familiar with this report,
RiskMeter’s tornado model gauges the potential for
tornado damage for any location in the Continental
United States. With this report, users will receive:
Tscale: This is a number between 1 – 100
that represents the frequency of tornado events
from 1990 – 2005. The national average is 8, so any
Tscale number higher than that is more likely to have
a tornado occur.
Tpercentile: This is a percentile score that
compares the address entered to the rest of the
U.S. For example, a score of 80 would mean that it’s
in the top 20% of all areas in the U.S.
Storms per Year: This is the average number
of storms per year for the area. The national
average is one tornado every three years.
Tornado Score: This is the tornado score
based upon the number of tornadoes per year. The
scores can be interpreted as follows:
0 – No Tornado Risk – No storms in the area
1 – Below Average Risk – Less than 1 tornado every
5 years
2 – Average Risk – Approximately 1 tornado every 3 -
5 years on average
3 – Elevated Risk – Approximately 1 tornado every 1 -
5 years on average
4 – High Risk – 1-2 tornadoes per year on
average
5 – Extreme Risk – More than 2 two tornadoes per
year on average

Flood Elevation WebEx

The most common natural disaster is flooding. Every
state is susceptible to flooding and this problem will
only get worse due to new land development and
changes in weather patterns and topology.
RiskMeter's flood elevation report is the perfect tool
for underwriters to dig deeper when it comes to
evaluating flood risk. In addition, this report will
also benefit agents by allowing them to sell more
flood insurance to people who live outside a flood
zone.
On Thursday, Oct 5th
RiskMeter will
be holding a special online demonstration of its flood
elevation report. To secure your spot, please

Hail Model Updated

CDS has just updated the RiskMeter Hail report by
adding data from 2005. This
report is now based on events from 1990 -
2005.
For people who aren't familiar with this
report, RiskMeter's hail model gauges the potential
for hail damage for any location in the Continental
United States. With this report you will
receive:
Hscale: This is a number between 1 – 100
that represents the frequency of hail for the last
sixteen years. For example the national average is
5.78
(2.28 hail storms per/yr), so any Hscale number
higher than that is more likely to have
hail.
Hpercentile: This is a percentile score that
compares your lookup to the rest of the US. For
example, a score of 10 means that it’s in the lowest
10% of all areas in the US, or a score of 80 means
that your lookup is in the top 20% compared to all
areas in the US.
Storms per Year: This is the average number
of storms per year for the area. The national
average is 2.28 storms per year.
Hail Score: This is the hail score based upon
the number of storms per year. The scores can be
interpreted as follows:
0 – No Risk – No Storms
1 – Low Risk – Less than 2 storms per year
2 – Average Risk – 2 to 3 storms per year
3 – Elevated Risk – 3 to 5 storms per year
4 – High Risk – 5 to 15 storms per year
5 – Extreme Risk – More than 15 storms per
year

The Importance of Correctly Collecting Insurance Premium Taxes

Collecting taxes on insurance premiums can be a very
time consuming and difficult task. According to an
article in the June 13th edition of the Cincinnati Post,
at least 11 insurance
companies were charging city insurance
premium taxes to residents who live in different cities
or unincorporated areas.
Currently, several states require insurers to collect
taxes on insurance premiums, and report the taxes
collected by the jurisdiction to the state.
Unfortunately, jurisdictions may include
municipalities, counties, city limits and/or fire
districts. With the RiskMeter Online, users just need
to enter an address to get the correct information.
Also, unlike city or zip code based solutions, the
RiskMeter’s mapping files accurately reflect the
official boundaries regardless of the mailing
address.
Please contact your account
executive at
617.737.4444 for more information on this
report or to run your book of business through our
software in batch.
