| RiskMeter Online's
Hurricane Reports - Running Policies in Batch
|
|
Although the last two
hurricane seasons have been inactive, the 2008
season is shaping up to be a very active one thus
far and there's still two months left! Before the
next hurricane hits, now's the time to leverage
the RiskMeter Online batch feature to run your
book of business or schedules through, so you can
gain a better understanding of your hurricane
exposure. The RiskMeter Online offers
various hurricane related reports, including:
- FEMA Flood Zones
- Distance to Coast
- Distance to Intracoastal
- Storm Surge
- Flood Elevation (Combines flood zone
information with elevation information)
- State Wind pool Eligibility
- Wind Speed Regions/Wind Loss Mitigation
- FL Windspeed Mitigation Report
- Policy Exposure Module (Use this feature to
manage your aggregates)
We are also looking to
add wind AAL's and PML's in the not too distant
future.
To learn more about the
RiskMeter Online batch feature or for pricing
information, please contact your account executive
at 617.737.4444. Why
count losses when you can measure
risk? |
| Financial Markets &
Risk Exposure - How Insurers Can Remain Profitable
Even in the Toughest of Times |
|
|
With our financial market in a state of flux,
it's imperative for property & casualty
insurers to manage their risk exposure, while our
financial market straightens itself out (hopefully
sooner rather than later).
Unfortunately, this isn't the
only predicament insurers are
facing. Some of the other dilemmas
insurers have to deal with are an active
2008 hurricane season and a soft market. All
of this combined means insurers need to accurately
price policies, understand their risk exposure and
maintain strong underwriting discipline.
The RiskMeter Online can help and we'd love
to provide our users with a
competitive edge. Since 1994
we've been providing customized solutions to help
insurers minimize risk and accurately price
policies. Some of the
solutions we offer are aggregate mapping,
batch/schedule processing, custom shorelines,
concentration maps and much more.
Let us help you! Tell us your problem
and we can come up with a creative solution.

| New Louisiana Wind
Speed Report |
|
| CDS has added a new Louisiana
Wind Speed report to the RiskMeter Online.
This report will alert users which wind speed
region (there are 7 total) a policy falls into
and provide users with a way
to accurately apply credits. These maps
compliment the wind speed maps we currently offer
in FL, RI, and SC. Other maps can be made
available upon request. To add this report
to your account, please contact your account
executive at
617.737.4444 |
| Crime Report Updated
|
|
| CDS has just updated
RiskMeter's Crime Report. This report is updated
yearly, and it's based on FBI Uniform Crime
Reporting Statistics (UCR) and demographic
clustering, to estimate crime rates for very small
areas (census block groups). The latest
update includes new data from 2007. For
users who aren't familiar with this report, all
you need to do is enter an address and it will
return 10 crime scores for a given location.
Many of our customers have found this report
to be extremely helpful when writing commercial
and residential property, by identifying high risk
areas prior to instituting coverage. In
addition, carriers who write convenience stores
and fast food restaurants have also used them to
evaluate the risk of an area. Within the
next few weeks we will be adding the updated crime
statistics to our resources section. For
more information or to test drive this report for
two weeks, please contact your account
executive at
617.737.4444

| Alabama Wind Pool Report
Updated |
|
| CDS has just added the
revised Alabama
rating zones to the RiskMeter Online wind pool
report. Now if a policy falls "In" a wind
pool zone, RiskMeter will tell users if the policy
in question falls into a Gulf Front, Coastal or
Beach territory. For more information,
please speak with your account executive at

| Test Drive the RiskMeter
2.0 for Free |
|
|
The RiskMeter Online has made two significant
improvements to its service and we'd love for our
users to test them out!
First, the RiskMeter Online 2.0 now has
the ability to overlay our risk maps
directly on aerial images. This
revolutionary feature will be extremely helpful in
analyzing risk, by enabling users to see where
natural hazards (flood zones, brush, storm surge,
etc) fall in relation to a building. Users
will no longer need to compare a flood map to an
aerial image, as these two maps have been
merged. To see sample screen shots, click here.
Second, RiskMeter has improved the look of
its street maps by adding street names and
landmarks to them. This enhancement will make it
easier for users to run reports on new
developments, properties located in rural areas,
as well as verify addresses that have poor
geocoding results. We are only allowing a
limited number of organizations to test drive the
RiskMeter Online 2.0 for free. To reserve
your spot, please contact Ryan Turgeon at
617.737.4444 or rturgeon@cdsys.com |
| RiskMeter Batch
Enhancements |
|
|
For those of you who aren't familiar with the
RiskMeter Online batch service, it allows users to
run multiple addresses or schedules, without the
need to type in each address individually.
The batch feature enables users to upload a file
and get the results emailed back in spreadsheet
form anytime, anywhere.
CDS has taken your feedback and has made some
enhancements to the RiskMeter Online Batch Web
site, including:
- Option to save results as an Excel
spreadsheet
- Internal RiskMeter code deleted from results
- Current batch users can click on a link in
RiskMeter and it will automatically log them
into the batch site
- Ability to add Geocoding Accuracy column
- Option to add Latitude/Longitude column
- Ability to click a link in the output table
to open an individual record in RiskMeter to
review the results
Out of all of the enhancements we have made,
providing our users with the ability
to pull up individual records in RiskMeter is a
huge development. This feature will
allow users to dig deeper and pull up aerial
photos to see if a building is in a flood zone or
to see how dense brush is in a particular
area.
To add the batch feature to your account or
to add the geocoding accuracy &
latitude/longitude columns to your output, please
contact your account executive at
617.737.4444.
For feedback or to request additional
features on the RiskMeter batch service, please

| New Report: ATC Earthquake
Hazard Zones |
|
|
CDS has recently added a new earthquake
report to the RiskMeter Online. The ATC
(Advanced Technology Council) earthquake zones are
widely used zones that rank earthquake hazards
throughout the United States. These county
based scores rank locations from 1-7
(low-high). Many brokers use these scores to
identify locations at risk from earthquakes.
Please contact your RiskMeter Online
account executive at
617.737.4444 if you
need more information or would like to
add this to your
account. |
| Over 300 Sinkholes Added
to Sinkhole Clearinghouse |
|
CDS is proud to announce that over 300
sinkholes have been added between our clearing
house and regular sinkhole database. In an
effort to provide the most comprehensive sinkhole
report for Florida, CDS is coordinating a sinkhole
clearing house for carriers. Currently,
there are over 5,000 sinkholes in the clearing
house. CDS believes sharing sinkhole
information will allow carriers to have the most
accurate picture of sinkhole activity in FL.
Missing just one of these could lead to a very
costly claim! Get involved
today! How Does this Program
Work?For people who aren't familiar
with this program, here's how it works.
Insurers who submit reported sinkholes will have
access to an exclusive
database that is comprised of our data and other
carriers' data. Taking part in this program
is a win-win situation because it will give users
a better picture of their sinkhole risk. To
find out more about this program, contact Jamie
Munson at 860.854.6125 or jmunson@cdsys.com |
| Top Ten Hail Prone
Metro Areas |
|
|
CDS has just released its list of the top
ten hail prone metro areas. This list
is based on the RiskMeter Online's Hail
Model, which predicts the severity of hail
for any location in the Continental United
States. According to this report, the
following top ten hail prone metro areas (pop
50,000+) are as follows:
- Amarillo, TX
- Tulsa, OK
- Wichita, KS
- Dodge City, KS
- Oklahoma City, OK
- Wichita Falls, TX
- Fort Worth, TX
- Denver, CO
- Kansas City, MO
- Colorado Springs, CO
Hail events are a constant threat to property
and casualty insurers. In 2005 alone there
were over 13,000 hail storms in the United
States. In addition, according to Swiss RE,
4 out of the top 20 most costly insurance losses
were hail related.
